Working in IT for 20 years has hammered the following uncomfortable truths and wisdom into my head again and again

you cannot restore something you didn’t back up in the first place

you cannot have increased security without sacrificing some usability or simplicity

if you can’t explain a complex concept in simple terms then you probably don’t really know it well enough

people are motivated by their needs – not yours
